The 22:30 Men

Built to Stand - Called to Kneel.

"And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none."

Ezekiel 22:30

What Does it Mean to Stand the Gap?

Just before the powerful call in Ezekiel 22:30, where God declares He is searching for a man to stand in the gap, the Lord lays bare the spiritual decay of His chosen people. Corruption runs deep. The prophets lie. The priests profane. The leaders devour. The people oppress. God's heart is not just angry—it is grieved. His justice burns hot, yet His mercy still waits.

And in that moment, God searches—not for an army, not for a movement, but for one man. One man who would dare to step between a holy God and a rebellious people. One man who, like Moses, would fall on his face and plead, “Lord, do not destroy them.” One man who would stand in the place of intercession, willing to bear the weight of a people’s sin in prayer, to cry out for mercy, to beg for revival.

This is what it means to stand in the gap.

It’s not passive. It’s not poetic. It’s costly.

To stand in the gap means to place yourself between a broken, dying world and the righteous judgment of God—bringing both hands together in bold intercession. It’s looking at your city, your family, your friends, and saying, “God, have mercy. I will not stop praying. I will not stop standing.”

This is the call. And the question remains: will God find such a man in you today?

The Legacy of Pastor Rick Hixon

Pastor Rick Hixon has gone home to be with Jesus, but the fire he carried for Christ still burns brightly. For years, he faithfully led the Cornerstone Bible Church men’s group with unwavering passion. He had a deep conviction that men should rise up, lead well, and bear much fruit for the Kingdom. As one of the pastors at Cornerstone, Pastor Rick embraced his calling with humility and purpose. He never treated the role lightly. Time and time again, he poured his heart into journaling his prayers and vision—always longing to see the church walk in unity, grow strong in the Word, and overflow with lasting fruit.

One of the most treasured gifts I (Josh Hixon, his son) now hold are two of his journals from the final years of his life. Within their pages are insights, wisdom, and raw devotion—a glimpse into a heart that beat deeply for Jesus. These journals still teach. Still challenge. Still inspire. In this section, you’ll find posts inspired by and drawn directly from those very entries.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pastor Rick also recorded some episodes of The Daily Stone—a series of heartfelt YouTube devotionals that encouraged many during difficult days. We’ve gathered some of those teachings here as well, alongside written transcripts to make them easy to revisit and share.

So dig in.

Let the richness of Pastor Rick’s legacy draw you closer to Jesus. May his words stir your heart, strengthen your walk, and ignite something new in your spirit. His fruit didn’t just remain—it’s still multiplying.

Share these teachings with your world. Use them to grow. Let them strengthen your faith and point you back to the One Pastor Rick loved with everything he had—Jesus.
