Building the Gap List part 1

Friday Recap: 8-15-2025

Key Verse

"And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none." — Ezekiel 22:30 (ESV)

God searched for someone to intercede, to stand in the gap between His holiness and the sin of the people, but He found no one.

For our generation, we cannot let that be said of us. God is still looking for men who will rise up, stand in the breach, and cry out for mercy. That is why we are building what we are calling the Gap List — a living record of people, nations, and ministries we will cover in prayer.

Why We Are Building This List

The call to intercede is clear. God is looking for men who will fall on their knees, cry out on behalf of others, and stand in the breach. But prayer is not the end — it’s the beginning.

When we faithfully give ourselves to prayer, something begins to happen. A fire starts to burn in us. Our hearts align with God’s heart, and suddenly we begin to see opportunities we never noticed before. His Spirit stirs courage in us, and faith rises to step into the very places He is already at work.

Prayer is the starting place, not the ending place. Intercession trains our hearts to listen and obey. From there, faith turns into action.

Paul understood this partnership when he wrote:

"I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf." — Romans 15:30 (ESV)

And again:

"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way." — 1 Timothy 2:1–2 (ESV)

So why are we building this list? Because prayer is where we start — faithfully, intentionally, and together. But prayer is also what fuels us for more. As we stand in the gap, we will be moved to reach the least of these, to feed the hungry, to bind up the broken, and to step into real ministry with tangible impact.

Too often we know these truths in our heads but not in our hearts. If we truly believed, we would burn with passion to live them out. That’s where God is taking us: Into prayer, Into faith, Into action.

Breaking Down the Gap List

The Gap List will have three main layers:

1. Global

The broad worldwide needs — missionaries, persecuted believers, unreached people groups, world leaders, and nations.

2. Global Connected

Global topics where we have real personal ties through our men's group. These are missionaries we know by name, ministries we directly support, and programs we are actively involved in. These will not be published online but will be shared within the group so we can pray specifically and personally.

"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2 (ESV)

3. National and Local

These final two levels bring us closer to home:

  • National – our leaders, government, culture, and needs across the United States.

  • Local – our own valley, our church family, the ministries God is birthing here, and the names of people we are personally seeking to reach.

Recap from Friday, August 15th

This week we began filling out the Global portion of our Gap List. Here are the points we covered:

  • The Pope — Pray that he would burn with the fire of the Holy Spirit, boldly proclaiming Jesus Christ to a watching world.

  • Missionaries Worldwide — Pray for protection, provision, courage, and lasting fruit as they labor in the harvest.

  • The Global Church — Especially in places of persecution and hardship. Pray for endurance, revival, and boldness.

  • Remember Churches under persecution especially. ("Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world." — 1 Peter 5:9 (ESV)

  • The People of Israel ★ — Pray for their salvation in Christ and for God’s promises to be fulfilled (Romans 10:1).

  • Unreached People Groups ★ — Entire nations and tribes who have never heard the name of Jesus. Pray that God would send workers into the harvest (Matthew 9:37–38).

  • World Leaders ★ — From presidents and prime ministers to tribal chiefs and governors. Pray that God’s will is accomplished through them (Romans 13:1).

★ = Gap Items — places where we truly stand in the breach, interceding for those who cannot or do not yet call on the name of Jesus.

What’s Next

Lord willing, next Friday we will finish shaping out the Global Connected portion of the list and begin moving toward the National and Local levels.

This is not about writing names on a page. It’s about taking responsibility before God to intercede, to carry burdens together, and to stand where no one else will.

Men, God is searching for those who will stand in the gap. Let it be said of us that when He looked, He found us ready.
